I have an inclination towards anything fizzy, especially in the summer. So what better way to kick of my FAVORITE season (the blog name didn’t give it away?) than with a from-scratch cocktail that incorporates all of my favorite things. Now I’ll admit, I really don’t like rosemary in food so I was hesitant to make a cocktail with it as the star – but let me tell you IT WORKS. Maybe I’m better off drinking my rosemary than eating it. Anywho, read on for this simple-yet-complex-tasting cocktail recipe!
What you’ll need:
- 1/2 cup rosemary simple syrup (instructions below!)
- 3 oz gin
- Juice from 3 blood oranges
- 1 can tangerine LaCroix
The How -To:
step one: To make the the rosemary simple syrup add 5-6 springs of rosemary, 4 cups of water and 2 cups of sugar into a pot and bring to a boil. Once it starts to boil, reduce to a simmer and allow it to cook gently for 15-20 minutes to allow the flavors to fuse together. Let cool, and bottle it up!
step two: Add the simple syrup, gin and blood orange juice to a cocktail shaker, and shake it like a polaroid picture.
step three: Divide the mixture into two glasses (strain if you don’t like pulp!) and top off with tangerine LaCroix. Garnish with blood orange slices and a rosemary sprig.
Like I said, it’s pretty easy to make, but it damn sure doesn’t taste like it. There’s a lot of depth of flavors thanks to the rosemary, and the citrus and fiziness make it the perfect summer drink.
The last time I posted a cocktail recipe, someone sent me a picture on Instagram of them drinking it on their rooftop. Now I know what it feels like to be a proud mom. I hope you guys enjoy this recipe and send me pictures. Happy summering!
