Many things are calling for celebration this month – Black history month, Valentine’s day, and many other exciting things in the works (stay tuned!). This cocktail recipe is one of those that I make all the time, but have never thought to post about. That’s changed, because I made one for a friend recently and her response was “tell me how to make one, because I need 10 more.”
Like most of my drink recipes, this one is relatively low-stress. There’s a little bit of a time investment in making the hibiscus syrup that serves as the foundation – but make a big batch and it’ll last you a LONG time. If you’d rather not make your own any simple syrup will do, but trust me you’ll be missing the magic of the drink!
What you’ll need:
- 8-10 blackberries
- 2 cups cold water
- 2 oz hibiscus syrup (find out how to make this here)
- 3 oz dark rum
*makes 2 glasses
The How-to:
step one: Add 4 or 5 blackberries in a glass with a 1 cup of water and muddle till as pureed as possible. If you’re not a fan of bits in your drink – you may want to strain before the next step.
step two: Add 1 oz of hibiscus syrup to glass, stir well and top with ice.
step three: Add 1.5 oz (1 shot) of rum and stir.
step four: Garnish with extra blackberries and serve.
Now you have no excuse. Treat someone special this Valentine’s Day with a cocktail that’s really amazing. Or sneak a glass in with you when you go and see Black Panther, you rebel.
Happy Day of Love!
